I once heard an anecdote about a group of police officers in the southern United States in the 1960s that came upon the body of a black man in a river. The corpse was wrapped in chains, bloody and badly bruised.
Their expert opinion: Serves him right for stealing those chains and trying to swim away with them.
This story is one that I must never forget for even when I believe I am being objective, I must be aware of the lens I am seeing my objectivity through.
